Election fever hits public relations students

Submitted by UKjournalism on January 1, 1970 – 12:00 amNo Comment

As talk of a national election in the UK died down, public relations students were busy engaging in the democratic process to elect student representatives.

Students from every year elect two people to represent them in staff and student liaison meetings.

Second year students also elect two of their group to provide the link between UCLan’s public relations students and the industry’s professional body, the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Commitment

Mary Welch, Senior Lecturer facilitated the second year election and said: “There was a great deal of interest in both the course and CIPR representative roles. Candidates gave an election address to the group before the ballot took place. Significantly, all the winning candidates emphasised their commitment to listening to their colleagues’ views and communicating effectively on their behalf.

“This is at the heart of strategic communication and is a key theme of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. I am confident that all the representatives will do an excellent job.”

The second year elected representatives are:

BA Hons. Single Honours Public Relations: Hannah Carmichael
BA Hons. Joint and Combined Honours Public Relations: Sarah Burnham

The CIPR Student Representatives are:

BA Hons. Single Honours Public Relations: Loanna Powell
BA Hons. Joint and Combined Honours Public Relations: Samantha Hutchinson
