Panellists have been confirmed for the 7th Journalism Leaders Forum which will examine the global impact of the local news business.

The forum, which will take place on the 16th October, is entitled Local Turf Wars: notes from the digital news frontline.

An impressive line-up of panelists has been confirmed and Mike Ward, Head of the Department of Journalism at UCLan and author of Journalism Online, will chair the forum.

Jay Rosen, an associate Professor of journalism at New York University and author of PressThink, is the latest addition to the list. He has recently teamed up with the Huffington Post and launched Off theBus “[US Presidential] campaign coverage by people who aren’t in the club.”

Jay will join Neil Benson, the editorial director of Trinity Mirror Regionals, Emma Hemmingway, author of Into the Newsroom: exploring the digital production of regional television news and department graduate and author, Andy Mitten, on the panel.

At 15 years-old Andy founded popular fanzine, United We Stand and is now also the author of several books about United, as well as a sports correspondent for The Independent, GQ and others.

The department has recently established links with Trinity Mirror Regionals by launching an Editorial Leaders Programme designed to help senior editors understand the challenges of multimedia.

The open event is the first in a series of events to mark the 45th anniversary of journalism education at Preston, which is the oldest of its type in England. It will start with a networking reception at 5.15pm in UCLan’s Greenbank building and the 90 minute panel discussion starts at 6pm.
