Publicity taster for new undergraduates
UCLan’s new public relations undergraduates were welcomed by their tutors and immediately got a taste of public relations practice.
Students on the course learn about strategic public relations and public relations tactics like organising photo shoots for publicity purposes, and they found they were the focus of the publicity photographs.
Alison Lucas, Course Leader, BA Hons Public Relations said: “Public relations is a varied field and publicity is an important part of it, so we plunged our students into their first photo shoot on day one!”
Tutors and students spent time getting to know each other and students talked about their reasons for choosing UCLan and about their future career aspirations.
Work placement
“Students are attracted to UCLan because of our friendly staff, great campus and excellent facilities,’ said Alison, ‘and they choose our courses because they offer an exciting mix of business, academic and creative subjects, opportunities to do a work placement and a route to an exciting and varied career in public relations and corporate communications.”
Students also enjoyed a day at FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology) in Liverpool. The visit was funded by the A2A Transitions Funding Scheme and was organised to help them meet new friends and to learn more about how PR operates in the arts sector.
