The division of Applied Communication has been chosen to host an annual international Public Relations conference.

The European Public Relations Education and Research Association (EUPRERA) approved a proposal by the division to host the 2006 EUPRERA Congress in Carlisle on the 6th – 9th September.

The three day event attracts over 100 delegates from all over the world and division leader Julia Jahansoozi has been involved in organising and developing the conference theme and the call for papers.

Networking

Julia said: ìItís a great opportunity for networking with other academics and practitioners in our field from across Europe and beyond. EUPRERA has members in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia. We also saw this as a goal for our division to host an international conference of this type as it truly fosters a research atmosphere.î

The theme of the conference examines ìstrategic communication in multicultural contextsî and the issue will be discussed through presentations, debates and discussions.

The whole divison of applied communication will be participating in the conference. Dr Johan Siebers is involved with panel discussions, and other members of the division will be chairing parallel paper presentation sessions. Both Julia and Mary Welch will present papers.

Maryís paper ìconsiders the role trust plays in employee relationships with their organisationsî and Juliaís looks at the oil and gas industry in Central Alberta, Canada, and their community relationships.

ìIt’s a real opportunity to meet academics from around the world who are also working in similar areas. Previous conferences have resulted in numerous collaborations both in research and in educationî said Julia.

Both Mary and Julia are looking forward to welcoming the visitors to Carlisle.

Julia added: ìI know we’ve got a really exciting line-up of presenters who have differing perspectives so there will be a lot to think about and discuss during the three days. It’s always nice to actually meet the people behind the research you’ve been reading about and have a face-to-face discussion about it.î
