A third year Public Relations student has been selected as the Student Liaison Officer for the Lancashire Business School faculty for the next academic year.

Kara McCabe was chosen over students from other departments to take on the role that provides a key link between students, staff and the Students Union.

Students can go to Kara if they have problems with their course, accommodation, financial troubles or any other aspects of university life.

She said she is looking forward to the placement and applying her PR skills to it.

Raise the profile

ìI hope to apply my knowledge and raise the profile of Student Liaison Officer (SLO) as I want to make it clearer to the staff and students what the role involves.î

Kara aims to take part in many campaigns with the SLOís from other faculties and to motivate students to become course representatives and get involved with various focus groups and research.

Kara herself has had many part time jobs at the university, including being a flying start mentor supporting new students on a residential at the university during the summer. She has also been a student ambassador and a Lancashire Business School tour guide.

ìI understand all aspects of university life including the downsides and the incredible upsides of being a student at UCLanî Kara said.

She added: ìWe hope to have more social events for students and I want to check student progress through monthly emails to see how they are getting on at UCLan.î
