Top names from sport communication are set to head for UCLan over the next three months to help in an exciting new Public Relations module.

The Sport Public Relations module, which is being run by Huw Evans, covers many of the main elements involved in the area including Media Relations, dealing with stakeholders, and sponsorship in one of the fastest growing areas within the communication industry.

But Huw has been taken by surprise by the interest in the module, and especially by the practitioners throughout the North West. He said: ìEveryone weíve spoken to has been really supportive and keen to contribute. I think weíve spotted a gap in the market.î

Specialist training

ìProfessional sport and business are now inextricably linked and as the media is making sport into a global product, simply satisfying the local community is no longer enough. However, though the clubs, and especially the sportswear manufacturers, have realised this, there are very few people who have received specialist training of any kind.î

Already, communication directors from Manchester Utd FC & Nike, Everton FC, Sale Sharks RFC and motor-racing circuit, Brands Hatch have agreed to give presentations to the students and Huw is hoping that more sports clubs will join them over the coming weeks.

Huw said: ìGiven Prestonís location it would be good to have a rugby league club or a cricket county on board. Itíll be interesting to compare how much communication work the different sports undertakeÖ but thatís something for another day.î
