Eggheads or Weakest Links?

Submitted by UKjournalism on October 3, 2006 – 11:26 amNo Comment

New public relations students were put to the test during Freshersí Week with University Challenged, the ultimate general knowledge quiz.

Two teams of four from the Division of Applied Communication took over the TV studios in Greenbank for the Fun Day event and found themselves sweating it out in front of the cameras.

Questions were asked by the divisionís answer to Ann Robinson, senior lecturer Stephanie Ferguson, and the overall champion of the Battle of the Brains was single honours student Stephen Ashurst who won book tokens and the title of PR Mastermind.

Prizes

Stephenís colleagues in the ëNew A Teamí, Laney Fothergill, Nathan Tooze and Joe Hutchence beat contenders ëTangerineí, headed by Adele Lally, with Lucy McDowell, Sam Hutchinson, and Jade Morris. The winning team members were also presented with book tokens by Stephanieís lovely assistant and ace scorer, course leader Alison Lucas, backed by subject leader Huw Evans, the new Dale Winton.

After the gruelling test, which made The Weakest Link look tame, the teams watched the programme playback in the gallery. Many thanks to Brian Moss for all the techno wizardry.

ìAlthough the quiz was a fun event it was also the chance for the new students to bond and for us to assess personalitiesî said Stephanie. ìThroughout our courses many of the modules involve teamwork and this was a light-hearted introduction to working together to achieve success.î

If you want to have a go at the quiz, here are the questions:-
