Second year student gets job over graduates from other universities
A second year PR student has secured a year long job over graduates from other universities.
Despite still having another year left of her course, Ruth Thomas beat graduates for a PR job at the East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) that will act as a placement year before she returns to UCLan for the final year of her Public Relations degree.
She will work in the internal and external communications department at the EMDA in Nottingham.
Hands on
Ruth said: ìIím really pleased to be given such an opportunity and I will gain some good experience from it. The job will be hands on and they are keen to make sure I am part of the team and get stuck in.î
She added: ìMost companies want graduates with experience and it is such a competitive industry then I want to be as prepared as possible. It will also help me to decide what area of PR I want to go into and also give me ideas for my dissertation in my final year.î
Senior PR lecturer Alison Lucas said: ìThis is the third successive years that we have had a PR placement student working at EMDA. We’re delighted that Ruth has secured this placement, and based on past student experience I’m sure she’ll get plenty of relevant experience and support.”
