- Right place, right time. John Hill at Wembley before the big game.
UCLan graduate John Hill won a major national competition – and found himself at Wembley.
John, from Rochdale, came out tops in a competition run by the Rugby Football League to find the best student rugby league reporter in the country. It was a perfect way to celebrate his graduation from the Sports Journalism course.
The prize included a visit to the Challenge Cup Final between Warrington Wolves and Huddersfield Giants. John joined the teams on their pre-match walkabout and wrote a report which was published on the RFL’s official website.
He said: “I was delighted and honoured when I learned about being selected as the winner of the RFL Sports Journalist Competition 2009. I had never been to a Challenge Cup Final before this year so it was all a new experience for me.
“The atmosphere on the day was fantastic and I felt it was very much an entertaining game. The Challenge Cup Final is always a date I look forward to on the sporting calendar and it didn’t disappoint. I am grateful to the RFL because the whole Wembley experience was invaluable. The facilities offered to the press were a different class and it has given me the motivation to work hard in the future to experience more occasions like this.”
