The Rugby Football League has turned to UCLan for reporters to cover some of the sport’s top amateur events.

Seven students from the Sports Journalism course are working on a series of events under the guidance of the RFL’s NW Youth Volunteer Co-ordinator Danny Parkinson.

Their role is to report on tournaments like the Lancashire Cup, the Cheshire Cup and the National Youth League. Later in the season the students will go on placements at Superleague clubs.

Their first event was finals day of the Lancashire Cup at Widnes Vikings stadium. Afterwards Danny said: “The UCLan students were fantastic! They all carried out their roles superbly which was been noted by many who came to watch the finals.”

Course leader Charlie Lambert said: “This link with the RFL gives students priceless experience of reporting real sporting events to tight deadlines. It is a great opportunity and we are pleased that the RFL  chose to work with us.”
