Former newspaper journalism student Sophie Wyllie became front page news herself when she broke the story about a Labour candidate in Norfolk denouncing Gordon Brown during the general election.

Sophie set the national news agenda after interviewing Manish Sood who said Brown was “the worst Prime Minister we have had in this country”.

Within two hours two hours of appearing on the Lynn News website, the story had attracted worldwide attention. Sophie was also interviewed by BBC Radio 5, Sky News and Anglia Television.

“I didn’t think a Labour candidate would say something like that about their leader. I realised it was a good story but didn’t think it would be picked up by as many people as it was.  It’s been very exciting.

“My degree was hard work but I had some great teachers and it was worth it. My editor, Jon Buss and work colleagues at the paper are also extremely supportive and have helped me a lot,” said Sophie who graduated from the BA Journalism newspaper course last summer.

“As a student Sophie was always coming up with great stories. One thing’s for certain she won’t rest on her laurels,” said  her former tutor Delwyn Swingewood.
