Vegetarian Times, July/August 2010

There’s an appealing, rustic feeling to this cover that makes you think of cosy, homemade yet interesting food. I’ve only recently become aware of Vegetarian Times and the simple, effective selection of key contents displayed here (“fresh, healthy recipes”, “killer kebabs”, “best homemade veggie burger” etc) gives the impression of a satisfying, intriguing foodie read within.

It manages to be subtle, with its lack of brash fonts and unusual pale colour scheme, yet still inviting. The choice of title font, use of green and photographic centrepiece clearly promotes the vegetarian, environmentally-aware nature of the magazine without being preachy. The pleasantly charcoaled look of the sweetcorn and roast veg gives a ‘green’ impression whilst looking tasty.

Rather like the ‘Modern Vegetarian’ section of BBC Good Food magazine this makes me – in my meat-loving capacity… – consider vegetarian food as a genuinely appetising prospect!

Love the colours, but something about the empty bottom rh corner looks odd. Should the strapline that edges on to the plate move down an inch? Or am I wrong? Or is that where the barcode goes? Except, where is the barcode? Is it on the back Polly?

Sorry for delay in responding to this! And yes I wasnt sure about that – the image is an online copy (not scanned from a purchased copy) as the picture quality was better, and I’m pretty certain that that’s where the barcode should be.
