Forever Keeps: Week One

February 6, 2012 in Forever Keeps, VV Voices

As a vintage stockist it can be hard to part with items that have become sentimental. Whether it’s a beautiful 1920s brooch that goes with every dress you wear or a vintage vase that’s been passed down through the family – many will have that one vintage item that they just can’t bear to let go.

So, here at VV we’re asking you to send in a picture of your ‘Forever Keeps’ vintage treasure and tell us why you would never let it get away. Every week we will choose our favourites and post them on the website.

To start us off here’s something from two of VV’s very own editorial team.

The piano that is chipped and worn out but still "magical" Photo: Maya Dibley

“My parents rescued this piano from a garage sale I think.  It has seen me through my first lessons when I had coloured stickers on the keys to warming up my opera singing now at the age of 23.  My dad tried to get me to learn keyboard once but I would only use this thing – it made me a piano snob for life.  It has seen better days but I refuse to let it go now, it’s part of me.

That’s the thing about vintage, parts may be worn or chipped or faded, but it has magic and history that no fancy new version could have.”

Olivia's bear has been passed down through the family Photo: Olivia Wallbank

“This bear has always been very special to me, although it is not strictly antique, it is over 40 years old. The bear belonged to my mum and was something she just couldn’t part with. It was kept in storage until I was born, when it was passed  down to me.

Apparantly it used to be lovely and fluffy when my mum was little, but even though it has lost all its white fur and is balding a little, I still love it very much and could never get rid of it!”
